Construction site - upgrades underway! April 2016

After two years of successful experiments and parallel intense and careful preparations we decided to implement a series of upgrades to our experimental apparatus, which will greatly enhance and maximise the possible scope of our experiments. Key new elements inside the ultrahigh vacuum system include an in-vacuum objective for high resolution imaging, an enriched atom source for potassium 40 (fermionic isotope) and an electrode structure for field ionising and detecting Rydberg excitations. Furthermore we are augmenting our atom traps with 3D lattices and a fluorescence imaging setup capable of resolving individual atoms inside the lattice. With these upgrades we will be able to play out the full capabilities of our machine in Heidelberg and delve much deeper into Rydberg dressed quantum fluids.
