New frequency doubled laser system for exciting Rydberg states of Potassium installed! October 2013

A key component of our new experimental system, a frequency doubled titanium-sapphire laser, has been installed in our lab.

The laser is tuned to 920 nm and then frequency doubled using second harmonic generation to produce the blue light needed to coupled Rydberg states of potassium. With this laser it should be possible to observe electromagnetically induced transparency resonances of potassium Rydberg states in a vapor cell, and eventually in ensembles of laser cooled potassium atoms.
