Emergence 2014: Shedding light on emergent quantum phenomena symposium a success ! March 2014

One of the central challenges in modern science is to understand the how the large-scale behavior of materials emerges from the laws of the quantum world on microscopic scales. Examples include the behavior of superconductive materials to the formation of a snowflake.

In March 2014, 70 experts from 15 countries around the world converged on Heidelberg, to take part in the Hengstberger Symposium "Shedding light on emergent quantum phenomena" at the International Science form Heidelberg. Our common goal was to develop a better general understanding of the emergence in many-body quantum systems. The four key topics covered were quasiparticles, quantum gases with long-range interactions, atom-light hybrids and low-dimensional systems.
